Asada

Taco places are everywhere in the upstate, in fact a big chunk of the places on our food bucket list were taco places. But let me just say not all tacos are created equal.

Asada was actually the first place we went on our list and I was thoroughly impressed with it…Josh was not (granted he got a burrito which is hard to really judge a taco place by).

I try to get specials as opposed to items that are always on the menu. The night we went, one of their specials was this like Korean inspired taco which I obviously had to get because who knows if it’ll ever be on the menu again?

Mine is obviously not the burrito

The chicken was probably what I was most impressed by. Yes I could’ve eaten the tangy, sweet sauce on everything. And the slaw was fresh and crispy with this amazing asian zing. But the chicken was impressive because not only was it just ever-so-slightly perfectly breaded and fried, but also it was actually CRISPY! Not soggy. Barely breaded. How they managed to give you that crunch factor with the smallest amount of breading possible (not even panko) was beyond me!

The contrasts of textures and tastes in the chicken, slaw and sauce was executed extremely well, especially given that this wasn’t an asian dish served over rice, but a taco.

Their chips and salsa (more like pico de gallo) were good, but there were only like 6 chips. So for those of you who eat an entire basket before your meal comes, this is not that place. The guac was flavorful but was pretty much just plain avocado with some spices. So if you like minimalist guac (without all the chunks of tomato or onion in it), this is a good place to get it!

Price-wise it was totally reasonable for the quality ingredients and taste. It could be seen as pricey compared to like Taco Bell but I’ve definitely had more expensive tacos that weren’t this good.

Plus, I got one taco and it came with two tortillas and a ton of filling, so I split up the goods into two tacos and there was still plenty of meat and slaw in each taco. I didn’t feel like I was eating mostly tortilla or anything either. So for the price, I was happy with the quantity as well.

Check out Asada and tell me what you thought! I definitely want to go back and try more of their menu!

They’re located at: 903 Wade Hampton Blvd. Greenville, SC 29609.

Word of caution: we almost drove right past it because it’s right in between the ihop and a car place. It’s pretty small, so just be ready to turn right after ihop!

I’m pretty sure they also have a food truck that goes around different places, so if you follow their insta you can keep up with where they’ll be next!

Have any taco places to add to the list? Drop them in the comments!
